Hello Again
Hello again!
It's been awhile, and though this newsletter space has been quiet, Boulder Progressives has not stopped working towards a more just and equitable future. Much of our service in the last few months has been focused on assisting allied groups in their efforts to bring forth progressive change in Boulder. A sampling of the things that we've been quietly working on...
- Stopping council from rubber stamping the police union collective bargaining agreement that is up for discussion in early 2021.
- The 'Bedrooms are for People' ballot measure that would expand housing opportunities for the most vulnerable members of our community.
- Working to create and expand Open Streets throughout Boulder to allow for car free, human scaled, play spaces.
- Advocating for safe sleeping options for people left out of Boulder's homeless sheltering system.
- Building a 'History of Boulder Politics' wiki with other similarly minded organizations, to shine a light on the divergent talk vs walk and how paying a blind eye to outcomes has resulted in a more conservative and exclusive community.

In addition to the above, and with ballots soon to arrive in the mail, we've also endorsed local ballot measures No Eviction Without Representation (2B) and Our Mayor Our Choice (2E). We feel that these proposals will help advance us towards a more progressive Boulder.
So that brings us up to the present. And while we'd love to get back to monthly coffees the reality is that with cases spiking amongst university students, Boulder being a hotbed of COVID incubation, and in the complete absence of a national response we'll continue to be engaging and organizing digitally.
We're already laying the groundwork for future Boulder Progressive efforts and in the meantime we'd like to introduce you to some friends of ours that we are working with to build a more progressive Boulder.
South Boulder Creek Action Group
A neighborhood organization pushing for the rapid implementation of flood protection for the Southeast Boulder community. They are working to get Council to adopt the financially prudent and most wide ranging safety design that has been offered up. They've been fighting hard since the floods in 2013 but this issue has been around since 2003. Head over to see what they are doing and give them some love.
United Campus Workers
The UCW has made huge gains in the last year since they started organizing for the waiving of grad student fees. In that time they've expanded their scope to further encompass the needs of faculty, staff, campus employees, undergrad workers and many, many more across all four CU campuses in the state. We're super excited about the work they've done and the work they will do!
Sierra Club
Who doesn't know the Sierra Club! The National level org has been a leader on critical climate issues including more efficient land use in cities and stopping sprawl. Locally the Indian Peaks Group (the local branch) has been working on a fracking ban in Boulder County and the State of Colorado. Additionally, the local group has an election coming up soon and we're making a pitch for people to join the Sierra Club! While signing up nationally you'll be automatically assigned (if you live in Boulder County) to the Indian Peaks Group. And if this does get you to sign up, please let us know!!
